Perfume Museums
Since perfume has been an important part of life since the time of the ancient Egyptians, there are several perfume museums in the world. There is also a Barcelona museum which displays perfume bottles, some of which are beautiful. Glass became a receptacle for perfume in Greek and Roman times.
In France the perfume and the containers for holding the perfume were sold separately until the eighteenth century when perfume makers began to make arrangements for packaging their product.
Ever since them, some of the most beautiful and exquisite bottles have been designed for perfume. The exhibit at the Archaeology Museum of Catalonia has some of these beautiful bottles that have survived the ravages of time. Most of these perfume bottles were found in burial vaults.
These exhibits are a part of a fragrance museum called the Musee del Perfume which is considered to be one of the world's best perfume museums. Since there are over 5,000 bottles which are exhibited at different time, the Museum's schedule must be checked to see what exhibit is on and when since they change them.
Since Grasse, France was the center of the perfume raw materials, it is now also the home of the International Perfume Museum. This museum has exhibits which trace the four thousand year history of perfume. It also explains the raw materials used in the production of perfume, the techniques for making perfume, how new perfumes are created and a history of the marketing and advertising of perfume.
The museum consists of three locations that figure prominently in perfume history: the 19th century Hugues-Aine perfumery, a 14th century Domincan convent and the 16th century walls of the city.
Europe isn't the only continent which hosts perfume museums. The Museu del Perfum opened in Curtiba, Brazil in 2004. This museum also illustrates the history of perfume with emphasis on Brazil. The museum is part of a complex with a shopping center, a convention center and other museums.
Perfume museums also exist in Iran and Mongolia. The Teheran museum is at the Dramatic Arts Center and has exhibits on cosmetics and perfumes. The Mongolian museum is at the Mongolian Dramatic Center in Ulan Bator. This museum also has exhibits on cosmetics and perfumes. The Hotel-Paris in Paris, France also contains a perfume museum.
These are the various perfume museums in the world. Other museums have exhibits on perfumes but the exhibits are not as extensive as these museums are.
